The Portage County Building Department and Floodplain Administration serves all the townships and villages in the county except the cities of Kent, Ravenna, Streetsboro and Aurora, which run their own permitting.
Its published electrical permit scope is unusually explicit, and worth reading before you hire anyone: "All electrical work, including but not limited to: new service, new meters, all new or replacement electrical wiring, swimming pools (licensed electrical contractor required) and ancillary systems (generators, solar and wind)."
Two things follow from that. Generators and solar explicitly require a permit here - if a contractor tells you otherwise, they are wrong. And swimming pool work requires a licensed electrical contractor, which Ohio does not require statewide for residential work.
